![]() Looking around it for the first time, it doesn’t seem much different from Yosemite. Ever lose you mouse pointer on your screen? Simply wiggle the mouse, and it will grow large. One very cool – and small – feature is the “lost your cursor” option. Let’s not forget, the new system font San Francisco, which was introduced in iOS 9 – which does seem to render nicely across the OS. However, it does add multitouch gestures to Mail and Messages, includes split-screen snapping and updates to Mission Control, Spotlight, Safari, Maps and Notes have been improved, and Apple claim app launching is increased by 40%. About an hour later and a couple of auto-reboots, I sat facing a new rock formation backdrop.Įl Capitan is dubbed as a performance release rather than a feature release. Once finished, I set it installing, updating over Yosemite on my Mid 2012 11″ 1.7 GHz i5 MacBook Air with 8 GB RAM. So I set it downloading, and at 6.08 GB it took an hour to download. Some fancy features, such as Handoff and AirDrop, do require a newer Mac. Mountain Lion all the way up to El Capitan can be run on as low as a Mid 2007 iMac, Mid 2007 MacBook Pro, Late 2008 Aluminum MacBook, Late 2008 MacBook Air, Early 2009 Mac Mini, Early 2008 Mac Pro, and 2009 Xserve. Although Mountain Lion required 2 GB RAM, it isn’t recommended to run Mavericks, Yosemite, or El Capitan on so little, and 4 GB should be classed as the minimum. Okay, I knew September 30th was the release date, but there seemed to be no fanfare from fans or the media. It was quietly ushered into the App Store.Īpple haven’t upped the requirements for El Capitan, which remain unchanged since OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion was released in 2012. I woke this morning to find Apple’s 2015 offering of OS X 10.11 El Capitan was ready for download. My opinion here, stay away from installing OS X Yosemite for quite awhile.El Capitan is the twelth revision of Mac OS X. While there is the free OS X 10.10 Yosemite for immediate download on the Mac App Store, your iMac model will run a lot slower on this OS X version and is NOT without plenty of issues and really is not ready for use as an everyday OS. OS X Mountain Lion, Lion, or Snow Leopard v10.6.8 already installedĢ GB or more of memory (I strongly advise, at least, 4 GBs of RAM or more) MacBook Pro (15-inch or 17-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later) MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later), MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later) OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion purchased emailed download code here. To install OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion, 10.9 Mavericks (currently unavailable) or OS X 10.10 Yosemite.you need one of these Macs: The only other choice I do not really recommend, but your 2007 IMac may run okay on it is once your IMac is upgraded to OS X 10.6.8, purchase an email download code for OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. Later versions of OS X are more memory intensive and lean more towards being a hybrid of OS X and IOS. To install Snow Leopard for the first time, you must have a Mac with:Īn internal or external DVD drive, or DVD or CD SharingĪt least 1 GB of RAM (additional RAM is recommended)Ī built-in display or a display connected to an Apple-supplied video card supported by your computerĪt least 5 GB of disk space available, or 7 GB of disk space if you install the developer tools. ![]() Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard system requirements Your IMac will run its best on OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard. My personal preference for you is to purchase a OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard install disc, then update to OS X 10.6.8 and STAY THERE! I have other computers at home that deal with "work" (batch editing photos, photoshop, etc). I will be using it only for web browsing, listening to music and watching movies. My main priorities is speed and performance, the second priority is to be able to use the magic trackpad. ![]() So now my question is, What OS should I run for the iMac (Mid 2007, 2.4Ghz, 6GB Ram, 1TB 7200rpm HDD, ATI Radeon 256mb GDDR3 Memory). I also picked up a used magic trackpad for it but only to realize after that it requires 10.6 to run the magic trackpad. I installed a 1tb disk in it and 6gb of ram to bring it up to modern standards. My friends were going to dump it as they are going to get a new imac 5K so i decided to take it home. I was going to attempt to install a new inverter and battery in it but instead, i was able to find a 24" mid 2007 imac with a failed hard drive. I have recently lost my early 2006 macbook.□ It has had numerous issues such as the common flickering screen, and the bulging battery issue. ![]()
